Responsible for the day to day management of the geological department and related activities of the open pit and later underground mine, ore control activities, geological interpretation, production infill drilling, and delivering various reports. Emphasis will be on ore grade control, minimizing of dilution by determining optimum mining cut and updating of grade control model. The incumbent will

 Minimum requirements:
•    BSC Honours Degree in Geology
•    Minimum 10 years’ experience in open cast/pit and underground mining (preferably Manganese and/or iron ore)
•    Proficient in geological data capturing and management in a Sable platform
•    Proficient in resource modeling and estimations in Datamine and other software
•    Capable of utilizing latest computer & software technologies such as Microsoft office products, CAD software
•    Managerial experience with both technical and non-technical personnel
•    Valid SA driver’s license
•    SACNASP registration as competent person required.

Competencies:
•    Ability to manage Geology team, contractors & consultants
•    Optimize the extraction of mineralized zones and minimize dilution
•    Manage infill and other exploration activities – diamond, RC and blast hole drilling techniques
•    Manage Geological data base
•    Conduct resource modeling, resource estimates and geological mapping
•    Assist mine planner in mine planning activities for both short term and long term • Together with Mine Planner do monthly reconciliation of ore tonnage and grade
•    Responsible for preparation of daily, monthly and yearly exploration and production related geological reports
•    Prepare capital and operating cost estimates for departmental functions
•    Develop and manage departmental budgets
•    Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with exploration and production contractors and external consultants
•    Ability to multi-task and prioritize time, work, and resources
•    Have good team player abilities that will function well as part of an integrated team that forms the Technical Department
•    Other tasks as required in support of company objectives.
