INTRODUCTION:
A leading manufacturer of woven textiles in South Africa is seeking a suitably experienced National Sales Manager to run the sales division from the company headquarters in Hammarsdale (KZN).
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the successful candidate will be a strong leader and mentor, driving high performance sales teams to achieve their targets, but also a strong administrator with a background in process planning and implementation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A tertiary qualification in business management/commerce.
  • At least 10 years of successful technical Sales Management experience, with a proven track record of consistently meeting/exceeding targets.
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing, with a background in textiles or related industry being a major advantage.
  • Well versed in best business management practises. 
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP is essential. Knowledge of Lotus Notes is an advantage.
  • Advanced MS Office (especially Excel).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Sales strategy and planning for all regions and product divisions.
  • Monthly revenue & GP targets for regions, products and individual sales staff.
  • Process development and implementation: highly effective lean processes to ensure all functions of the sales department operate at maximum efficiency.
  • Line management of the sales team which includes BDMs and sales admin staff at Durban head office as well as two satellite branches (JHB and Cape Town).
  • Tracking of sales staff performance via monthly KPAs and incentive programmes (commission plans, sales contests and bonus plans).
  • Continuous training, mentoring and motivation of all sales staff.
  • Effective management of all counselling and disciplinary issues for the department.
  • Recruiting, orienting, and training new sales staff.
  • Lead generation and sales pipeline management.
  • Relationship management at senior level with all key customer accounts.
  • Regular visits with BDMs to key customer accounts.
  • High level contract negotiation & enforcement.
  • Develop strategies for new business development (acquisition) and for growing the business with existing customers (retention, ‘share of wallet’).
  • Manage price lists and annual price increases by monitoring costs, competition, and supply and demand.
  • Effective management of Debtors Book and resolution of all customer queries and complaints.
  • Represent the company in various local and international conferences, trade fairs, and networking events (some travel time is required for this position).
  • New Product Development (NPD) with the Marketing and Innovation departments to commercialise new concepts and bring them to market.
  • Active tracking and analysis of key competitor activities.
  • Co-ordinate the sales operations with all the other departments in the company.
  • Enforce all company policies, processes and disciplinary procedures.
  • Prepare detailed monthly sales reports to the senior executive management team and shareholders.
