Key purpose of the role
 
The role will see you being responsible for supporting the Tier 1 and build teams with complex incidents, problem ownership to resolution and performing changes adhering to ITIL principles at all times. There will be an expectation to progress to on-call duties once a sufficient level of competence and understanding of the environments is met.
 
The team delivers enterprise cloud solutions both from data centres and on premise solutions from customer data centres, as well as delivering platform solutions internally which underpin the wider managed service delivery. The team manages and monitors the enterprise cloud environment using a portfolio of industry leading management tools.
 
The role has responsibilities focused around the smooth running of our client’s enterprise cloud and internal computing environment ensuring server, storage, network and hypervisor availability is maintained at the highest level.
 
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining service availability by performing routine maintenance, failover testing, implementing best practices, pro-active monitoring of alerts & status changes
  • Finding technical solutions to problems where necessary and practical, without compromising the commercial viability of current and future platform solutions.
  • Staying up to date and accredited within the current technologies.
  • Capturing repeat faults and undertaking root cause analysis and proactively identifying fault trends.
  • Where required perform the ‘Lead Engineer’ role for incident and problem management through to problem resolution.
  • Working as part of the on-call rota and ensure resources are always available 24X7 and respond to any calls from the Tier 1 or platform build team out of hours.
  • Attending internal and customer meetings and working parties to represent Platform Services where necessary.
  • Updating and where required creating process documentation for common support tasks and create / update related knowledge base articles.
  • Undertaking technical audits for key customers where issues have been identified and as part of the Service Improvement Process.
  • Completing customer change requests, including impact and risk analysis. Implementing out of hours where required.
  • Regularly updating service management system with quality notes detailing progress and actions completed on open incidents, problems and change requests.
  • Ensuring monthly SLA metrics for all platform services customers are achieved. 
Key experience required:
  • Graduate or qualified by experience with ITIL Foundation certification (ideal);
  • NCDA certification - Desirable
  • CCNP DataCentre - Desirable
  • 2 years’ experience of FlexPod technology stack for configuring, troubleshooting and administering all areas with deep technical expertise in at least two areas (stronger emphasis in bold):
  • NetApp Storage based around ONTAP and CDOT
  • Cisco UCS Compute platform Cisco Nexus data centre switches
  • VMware VSphere 5.0 to 5.5 administration
  • Administering/troubleshooting Cisco ASA Firewalls
  • Using Service Now and CA Management tools -
  • SAN Fabric Switch configuration (Zoning/Masking etc); -
  • Administering enterprise tape libraries (IBM preferred); -
  • Delivering storage solutions using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE);
  • Administering/troubleshooting Windows Server Operating Systems; -
  • Administering/troubleshooting of Linux Operating Systems;
  • Exposure to managing PCI-DSS compliant environments;  
  • Possess a full driving licence -

The ideal candidate will display a detailed and accurate approach to undertaking all duties. You should have professional verbal and electronic communication abilities. As a good listener, you will show an ability to communicate technical issues and resolutions to people of varying technical levels.
 
In additional you should be able to work with minimum supervision and to maintain a high level of motivation and productivity. You should possess the ability to prioritise while under pressure as well as be able to deal with high impact, high profile, incidents and deal with senior level technical engineers.
