An FMCG Client requires an experienced Project Mechanical Engineer on the East Rand

Purpose of role:

  • To provide mechanical engineering expertise to projects and operations in order to ensure smooth and optimum performance of plant machinery and systems.

The key reason for the existence of this role:

  • Provides support to the business in engineering, projects, technology and technical skills development. Provide expert services to operations, capital projects, and technical training department.   

This role supports the Organisation Strategy by:

  • Promoting best practice in mechanical engineering and technology management across operations. This is done in line with the broader business strategy for the operations.

 

The key outputs this role contributes to the business:

Financial:

  • Set standards to improve equipment reliability.
  • Support operations to achieve maximum plant availability.  
  • Project risk management and planning to minimise unnecessary expenditure. 
  • Apply cost effective methods to achieve maximum operational efficiency.

 

Business Processes:

  • Review technical documents and engineering standards.
  • Develop good engineering standards and practices.
  • Design industrial processing systems.
  • Design industrial equipment.
  • Confer with other personnel to resolve design or operational problems

Customers:

  • Provide customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

 

Sustainability:

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment and community legislation and policies

 

Qualifications:

  • BSc.Eng (Mechanical), from an institution accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa for registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • BTech Mechanical Engineering, from an institution accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa for registration as a Professional Technologist.

 

Experience:

  • 4-5 years’ experience in a heavy industrial process environment with the focus on equipment design, maintenance, operation and performance optimisation.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of process plant equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, compressors, centrifuges, pressure equipment, welding technologies, bearings, basic structural engineering and asset management.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of steam generation (boilers, combustion, boiler control, boiler protection, fuel and stack abatement).
  • Knowledge of material handling systems (conveyors, silos and bins), including their design, operation, repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment, pressure equipment, material handling equipment and basic structural engineering, including their designs, operation, repair, and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions

 

Personnel and Human Resources skills:

  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Detailed equipment design & specification, international drawing standards, commissioning
    • Applying rigorous problem-solving methods to find root causes, explore creative options and solve difficult problems for measurable business value.
    • Combining  pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events

 

Circumstantial Aspects: Travel, working hours (shifts) etc:

  • Ability  to work flexible hours, possess the ability to relocate
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, ambiguity, adversity and change
