MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED :
• Grade 12
• Qualification from a tertiary institution and production experience at the QA/QC level in the printing packaging industry
• Good verbal and written communication ability (English)
• Mathematical and MS office literacy

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS :
Specification Development:
o Develops packaging technical specification and packing documents in conjunction with the applicant, suppliers and production departments.
o Proof reads typed specifications and packing document and approved as QA packing specialist for specs.

General Duties:
o Carries out technical trails in QA packaging to ensure suitability of such new components before introduction to production departments
o Assists with customer complaints relating to quality of packaging design when required.
o Assists with troubleshooting in the packing halls as and when required.
o Recommends packing configurations and styles to applicant in conjunction with engineering and production.
o Determines quantities of materials required for each packaging components.
o Draws up document change note (CRF) whenever there is a change in packaging components code or packing instructions.
o Receives approved artwork of a product from the contract giver, evaluates for correctness for our equipment’s in conjunction with production for orientation of unit carton, enough space for batch coding, correct folding of package inserts.
o Develop specification for the artwork supplied and draws up a packing document.
o Forwards draft specifications and packing documents to QA administrator for typing.
o Proof reads typed specs and packing documents and if all correct, approves as a packing specialist and return those to QA administrator to circulate.
o Receives samples of technical drawing components from a new source, compares the technical drawings against current specs and writes out the differences and send back samples.
o Receives actual samples to check against specifications and write a report that will be attached to production trial report and will sign the report for QA packaging
o Proof reads artwork whenever required for Pharma-Q productions as a first check and Regulatory Affairs becomes the second proof read.
o Sizes up a shipper for a new product where current shippers cannot accommodate the new product requirement and will resize a shipper where configuration of the content change.
o Request a shipper manufacturer to supply a sample as per the new dimensions and If the shipper is correct, will request the supplier to supply shipper layout to be able to draw up a new specification.
o Updates current packing document and specification whenever there are changes required by contract giver or business needs.
