The Biovac Institute requires a Chemistry Analyst to contribute to its mission of establishing local biological and vaccine manufacturing capability at its Cape Town based site. Being the only one of its’ kind in South Africa, Biovac strives to respond to the vaccine needs of the developing countries, specifically South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. This is a particularly exciting time for the company as it continues to grow, strengthen and build on its success and further develop its capabilities, products, services and market diversification.

The successful incumbent will report to the QC Chemistry Supervisor.

The Key Performance Areas for this position include:

• Projects
o Implementation of new tests and new technologies and participation in the qualification of related equipment.
o Test development, verification and validation.
o Participation in technology transfers from other vaccine manufacturers and other project activities.

• Quality of systems
o Maintaining laboratory operations at cGMP standards to ensure quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
o Ordering and stock control.
o Participation in quality audits.
o Equipment monitoring and maintenance.
o Contributing to drafting, updating, proofreading and editing of procedures.

• Quality of Product
o Sample receipt and logging of samples.
o Routine testing (incl. testing of utilities, raw materials, in-process samples, product and stability samples).
o Compiling laboratory reports.
o Completing trend analysis templates as laboratory results are obtained.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

• Diploma or degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related subject.
• Minimum experience required for the position is 3 years of relevant experience in a GMP environment.
• Experience in a pharmaceutical QC laboratory would be an advantage.
• Must demonstrate competency in laboratory skills, including documentation

Other requirements

• May require some occasional off shift and/or weekend coverage to accommodate schedules and/or project timelines
