Qualified Health & Safety Officer (maternity cover)

Our client, a well-established market and industry leader in the Industrial Engineering and Steelworks industry, is seeking the services of an experienced, competent and self-motivated Health & Safety Officer to join their organisation for a 6 months maternity cover contract, to start immediately.

The incumbent will cover all aspects of OHASAct in the construction industry.

Minimum requirements :
• Senior Certificate is non-negotiable
• A diploma in Health and Safety or Environmental Health is essential
• A minimum of 5 years Occupational Health and Safety Management experience with a NOSA/SAMTRAC diploma/certificate most advantageous
• Excellent understanding of Health & Safety implementation and enforcement processes within a large organization with the ability and previous experience and track record to work under extreme pressure.
• Self-Motivated, Meticulous, and Deadline driven.
• Must demonstrate the ability to handle large volumes of data, information, projects and tasks at any given time and still be able to deliver quality work on time.
• Excellent communication skills who can display a sense of urgency at all times with the ability to initiate action and corrective/preventative measures.
• Incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis
• Computer Literate in all MS Packages
• Code EB (08) Driver’s License is non-negotiable.

Duties would include :
• Proactively promote the occupational health and safety of all employees, Visitors and Contractors.
• Regularly evaluate the risks associated with business activities.
• Develop and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety strategies
• Participate in establishing and monitoring Occupational Health and Safety Targets with emphasis on risk reduction.
• Conduct incident investigations on reportable and non-reportable incidents.
• Conduct internal audits, workplace inspections and investigate complaints.
• Guiding, coaching and supporting H&S Representatives.
• Managing specific projects aimed at continuous improvement
• Effective participation in change management process and initiatives.
• Knowledge transfer through training, awareness campaigns, etc.
• Keep informed in development of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
• Analyze trends and feedback obtained through incident/audit reports.
• Key role player in a multi-disciplinary team.

Salary dependant on qualifications, experience and competency.
