Responsibilities

•Responsible for the currency of regular checks of resident files, Drug registers and other relevant records.

•Ensure that the healthcare objectives of are met.

•Daily meetings with catering service to discuss resident’s diets, requests and grievances.

•To facilitate the continued communication between the residents and their families, ensuring that the high standard of care is maintained.

•Ensure proper day to day management and organization of the units.

•Ensure the bed occupancy is optimally maintained at 85%.

•Ensure file audits are carried out.

•Quality improvements carried out and evaluated.

•Approve all admissions.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø To be conversant with administration required for the running of the healthcare and personnel management.

Ø Monthly compilation of operating and capital budgets and variance reports.

Ø Financial management: Annual budget preparations.

Ø Annual assets and CAPEX preparations.

Ø Management of the operational budget.

Ø Compile monthly statistics and healthcare report.

Ø Designing and implementing new documentation as required.

Ø Writing of investigative and motivational reports.

Ø Monthly checking of all billing and invoices prior to posting thereof.

Ø Be available for counseling both residents and staff.

Ø Directly involved in interviewing, selecting and allocating of nursing and domestic staff, with regards to experience and qualifications.

Ø Ensure that all relief staff have a signed contract of employment.

Ø Do random spot security checks on staff lockers and bags.

Ø Chair Disciplinary and grievance hearings.

Ø Responsible for the control and the recording of prescription drugs.

Ø Monthly Schedule 5, 6 & 7 register checks.

Ø Ensure that nutritional requirements of residents are effective.

Ø Manage service level agreement for disposal of hazardous waste.

ORGANIZATION OF NURSING SERVICES

Ø Ensure that all resident’s complaints are investigated.

Ø Ensure that the high standard of nursing is maintained.

Ø Do regular ward rounds to ensure that procedures are adhered to, in order to avoid medical and legal hazards.

Ø Ensure that all records are kept in accordance with the policies and regulations.

Ø Ensure that nurses are all working within their scope of practice.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING

Ø Ensure that the necessary material and equipment are available for teaching purposes and that enough funds are made available for training.

Ø Submission of annual training plan for formal training for all staff requirements.

DISASTER PROGRAM SCHEDULE, HEALTH AND SAFETY

Ø Ensure that regular fire drills are done and that resident and staff are familiar with the evacuation procedures.

Ø Development and maintenance of the emergency evacuation plan.

Ø Be a representative on the Health & Safety Committee.

LEGAL COMPLIANCE

Ø Registration with Department of Social Services.

SECTION 5:- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS

Ø Matric – 4 Year Degree/Diploma in nursing.

Ø Registration with the South African Nursing Council.

Ø Proof of indemnity.

SKILLS

Ø Excellent Leadership and peoples skills.

Ø Good administrative skills.

Ø Computer literate.

Ø Ability to receive and execute orders from superiors.

Ø Loyal and honest.

Ø Fully bilingual.

Ø Good English written and verbal communication.

EXPERIENCE

Ø Nursing and ward administration for at least 10 years, with previous experience in specialized field.
