About the job:
The Client's ICT Service Centre has a vacancy for a Senior Analyst Programmer. The incumbent will design, develop, modify and/or update applications in one of four centres of expertise (PeopleSoft, Oracle, Open Source, and/or Web Technologies) by using their programming skills and by following the development practices as contained in best/’better’ practice application development methodologies, delivering the cutting-edge technology application
solutions as required and/or defined by the Client. This position is
based in Pretoria.
Key responsibilities:
Design how applications should work including cross-application
interfaces in order to provide solutions that support the goals of the
organisation.
Compile technical specifications that can be used by other analyst
programmers, senior and junior developers, which will map to the functional
specifications that accurately reflect the business need.
Program applications that support the goals of the organisation to
agreed standards and guidelines and according to specification.
Document programming code according to agreed standards and principles.
Create test plans in conjunction with the domain/business
specialists/analysts to ensure that the application will meet business needs
Perform unit and occasionally system tests on the application(s) prior
to handover to senior systems analysts and users to ensure that the recipient
is happy with the quality of delivery.
Project lead one to three technical teams or participate in one to three
projects, providing programming and analysis expertise where necessary as part
of a larger project team.
Collaborate with and inform senior systems analysts in the application
architecture, integration and design (AAID) team of best possible technical
scenarios in delivering on the required solution.
Participate in code review sessions.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
A relevant Bachelor’s degree in IT such as a BSc degree (Computer
Science).
Without the above-mentioned qualification the following are three (3)
alternate minimum qualification requirements. A three-year national diploma in
IT with either:
An industry-recognised qualification in Oracle Application, Middleware
Development Certification, (e.g. Oracle PL/SQL Advanced Developer OCP, 11i
Workflow Certified Expert)
A PeopleSoft Application Development Certification (e.g. PSFT Enterprise
9 Human Capital Management, HR Consultant Certified Expert or PSFT Enterprise 9
Fin Mgmt, GLConsultant Certified Expert )
An industry-certified Java Developer.
A Master’s qualification would be ideal as it would provide good
background in IT technologies and functional knowledge. It would also mean that
an incumbent has had experience in working on a research project.
Six to eight years experience in at least three of the following
programming languages which have a logical programming context: C, C++, and C
#, Java, PHP, SQL, People Code, PL/SQL, HTML, XML PHP and JavaScript.
Multi-operating system experience would be an advantage.
Experience in customising an ERP package.
For PeopleSoft related technologies: In-depth knowledge of PeopleSoft
technologies: People Tools, Application Engine Development, Application
Messaging, Integration Tools, SQR/SQL, Query/Crystal/vision, Component
Interface, Process Scheduler and Integration Broker.
For Oracle and Open Source related technologies: In-depth coding
knowledge using programming languages such as PL/SQL, Enterprise Java, C, C++,
C#, PHP, XML, Ruby. Knowledge of Oracle Workflow, Forms, Reports, Views,
Analytical Functions, Stored Procedures, Functions, and Triggers and
development of APIs and web services.
Knowledge of development methodologies: Ajax, DHTML, Ruby on Rails, etc.
