Overview of role: To provide commercial leadership in the procurement team that is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies (pertaining to both strategic and tactical commodity categories) and other initiatives in delivering procurement savings and departmental targets. Overall the Senior Buyer is responsible for ensuring the continuity and security of supply of the right quality goods and services at competitive prices and at minimal contractual risk.

The incumbent in this role is required to:
• Conduct supplier commercial negotiations
• Run the tender process
• Establish supplier contracts
• Maintain and administer contracts pertaining to commodity categories
Qualifications:
• Degree/Diploma in Supply Chain Management/Procurement/Strategic Sourcing
• Supply Chain Management Certification (CIPS) advantageous
Experience:
• 5 – 8 years minimum experience in Supply Chain Management

Key skills and experience required
• Experience in a Senior Buying role
• Knowledge of supply management framework, sourcing toolkit, contract administration
• Problem solving skills to analyze information to evaluate internal and external demand and external supplier information and exact critical cost opportunities
• An understanding of TCO and its application
• Commodity and supplier profiling, including Commodity strategy formulation and execution
• Tendering process management
• Negotiation skills
• Ability to compile reports
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and government programmes related to B-BBEE and Supplier Development and localization including industrialization / localization / skills development / enterprise development
• Compliance to policies, procedures and standards for risk management
• Experience in supporting key purchasing requirements, including vendor search, vendor management, evaluation, negotiations, follow up on delivery/performance and post-delivery dispute resolutions
• Working knowledge of SAP Purchasing modules
• Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Good business English is essential
• Good communication, interpersonal, decision making and problem solving skills
• Must be able to work under pressure
