An exciting vacancy exists in Sandringham for a Senior Engineer: IT Network.

Key Job Responsibility

  • Applies complex design principles and methodology to ensure cost-effective and optimal use of resources and technology without jeopardizing network integrity.
  • Maximizing network performance (LAN, WAN, Wireless & remote connectivity - VPN Technologies) by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with network architects on network optimisation; this involves escalation of issues to contracted Service provider.
  • Remote access support, troubleshooting and fault finding of on-site engineers and end users
  • Resolve incidents and fulfill service requests using a service management ticket tool and change management processes.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server, switches, routers, Wi-Fi systems and key processes.
  • The configuration and installation of hosted VoIP, UC and Video Conferencing solutions, wireless design, bandwidth optimization and WAN acceleration tools.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and configure network infrastructure equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and other data network infrastructure
  • Develop, maintain and respond to network alerts to monitor performance, availability and security.
  • Mentor other network engineers within the network environment.
  • Participate in the development of network architecture.
  • Implement and monitor redundant network links for critical sites and perform regular tests of backup links to ensure business continuity
  • Manage and monitor systems to ensure high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Ensure the DR site and production site are 100% synchronized.
  • Perform capacity planning on the network by monitoring and analysing performance.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions and virus monitoring
  • Manage firewall and security policy rules in line with business requirements.
  • Apply security patches and upgrades as required to production and DR site.
  • Provide input into the development of IT processes and policies.
  • Conduct risk management within own area
  • Contribute in the development of technology roadmaps.

Minimum requirements & key competency

  • Min NQF Level 6 / Degree in Information Technology
  • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
  • ITIL Foundation – desirable.
  • COBIT certificate – desirable
  • Minimum of 6 - 7 years’ experience supporting production network infrastructure
  • In depth implementation and troubleshooting experience of networks using concepts/protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, MPLS VPNs and emerging concepts such as Software Defined Networking.
  • Experience with LAN and datacenter technologies such as Ethernet, Spanning Tree Protocol, First Hop Redundancy protocols.
  • Experience in VoiP technologies.
  • Possess experience implementing complex switch configurations including STP, VSS, FHRP, VPC, FEX, etc.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN support and design for voice, data and video networks at Access, Aggregation, and Core network locations.
  • Leverage tcp dump, wireshark, Embedded Packet Capture, and Ethanalyzer.
  • Perform complex traffic engineering involving policy maps/route maps/class maps.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in implementing and administering complex firewall configurations.
