POSITION DESCRIPTION
Qualifications
Relevant experience in a professional services environment.
Sound technology skills, including advanced spreadsheet skills.
Solid understanding of global tax, IFRS and accrual accounting principles.
Post graduate accounting qualification – newly qualified CA(SA).

Primary purpose of the role
To assist the financial team in financial service delivery by taking responsibility for a number of advanced tasks (defined below) centered around accounting and improving the accounting function.

Statutory accounting - Major responsibilities
Assist the Group Financial Manager in the preparation of annual financial accounts for various companies.
Assist the Group Financial Manager in the preparation of half yearly interim financial statements for JSE compliance purposes.
IFRS compliance of statutory accounts and financial accounting of transactions.
Full financial management function of specific identified group division(s) including maintaining financial records related reconciliations.
Timely reporting to management in line with group reporting timetable.
Ensuring daily dashboard reporting is updated timeously and accurately and of high quality.
Review and approve non-recurring transactions.

Performance indicators
Strong technical financial accounting skills including consolidations and foreign currency translation.
Strong systems skills with an ease of adaptation to excel and accounting system based reporting.
Timely production of statutory accounts in time for year-end financial audit (December) and half year Interim results in June of each year.


Balance sheet reconciliation reviews - Major responsibilities
Provide assistance to accounting team in ensuring all balance sheet recons are completed on a monthly basis.
Review monthly reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
Follow up and resolve all reconciling items after month end.

Performance indicators
Ensure timely and accurate completion of selected balance sheet recons with a minimum clearance time for all reconciling items.

Project work - Major responsibilities
Assist Group Financial Manager in the “continuous improvement” approach currently being applied to the Group Finance function.
Assist Group Financial Manager in a control environment assessment and improvement per financial section, including documenting of related control procedures and responsibilities.
FAR (Fixed asset register) clean-up project, including system automation, asset numbering for verification purposes and location management.
Assist Group Financial Manager in automating monthly management reporting templates, including set up of Group consolidation.
Assistance to Group Financial Manager on specific items and other ad-hoc projects as required.

Performance indicators
Identify and convert on opportunities for process improvement in the above areas of major responsibility. These improvements should, have the effect of optimising efficiencies and minimising risk.
Creation of capacity in the incumbents role to absorb more tasks of a “value-add” nature.

Assist Group Financial Manager with the following other financial processes:
Budgeting
Cash management and treasury
Forecasting and scenario planning
Funding decisions
Cost accounting
Tax compliance

Support processes - Major responsibilities
Assist Group Financial Manager with the following support processes:
Staff training – assess training needs
Company secretarial function
IT user requirements and improvements (including integrations)
Administration and document management

Package: R450 000 – R500 000 TCTC per annum
