The ideal person or this role will be responsible to strategically manage the financial function of the business (including all South African group companies), to ensure quality internal and external reporting, to manage the budgeting process, to ensure investment decisions are sound through appropriate ROI calculations, to ensure cash management and optimisation and to ensure an improved return on investment for shareholders
Qualifications & Accreditations
• BCom (Hons) Accounting with Articles
• Chartered Accountant (CA)
Experience & Skills
• Proven experience of working at FD level within a medium to large organisation (ideally in a listed environment with retail and/or financial services experience)
• Strong business / commercial acumen to be able to support and add value to the group’s strategy and growth
• Significant senior level experience of managing financial operations
• Good knowledge of financial reporting, tax, relevant laws and regulations and governance principles
Key Performance Areas
Meet company targets
• Contribute to the achievement of company objectives as a member of the executive team by providing advice and guidance on financial and business strategy
• Ensure that the finance team delivers the highest standards of departmental and cross departmental teamwork, excellence, customer service and demonstrate complete integrity in all of their actions
• Drive and implement innovation within the team and business
• Ensure that the longer-term objectives of the group are being appropriately addressed with current resource management and strategy implementation
Financial reporting
• Oversee all financial reporting (internal and external) within the SA group to ensure it is accurate, timely and meaningful
• Oversee all accounting procedures and systems used by the SA group
• Oversee all statutory and external reporting and ensure that it is regularly benchmarked against peers and best practice
• Manage the relationship with associated business partners including auditors, tax consultants and advisors
• Oversee all internal financial management reporting and analysis, ensuring that it enables appropriate and timely executive decision-making
• Ensure financial management reporting tools and processes are in place to support the on-going and future needs of the business
Forecasting
• Maintain five year forecasts in order to shape the strategic objectives of the group
• Lead and manage the financial and operational budgeting processes
• Ensure appropriate daily and monthly cash flow forecasts are prepared and maintained and variances analysed, with corrective action taken where necessary
• Provide on-going financial modeling and analysis expertise to the business to support the development of long-term strategic initiatives and business plans
Cash management
• Manage the accurate reporting and forecasting of cash and ensure efficient use of cash resources
• Manage the group’s banking facilities and all banking relationships
• Drive a culture of cost consciousness throughout the group
Risk management
• Be involved in the management of risk in the group and instill a culture of risk awareness throughout the business, ensuring an appropriate internal control framework is in place and is regularly monitored and reported upon
• Review material contracts and agreements and ensure group’s compliance with and monitoring of statutory and legislative requirements
• Manage the group’s annual insurance renewal and ensure appropriate cover is maintained at all times
• Identify and respond to tax risks and opportunities
Talent management
• Ensure an appropriate departmental infrastructure is in place to deliver against KPA's, overseeing the recruitment and management of the finance, payroll and facilities teams
• Oversee development of departmental goals and ensure all employees have KPA's in place against which to manage performance levels that adequately reflects expected performance outcomes and defines appropriate competencies and behaviours of the role
• Ensure optimal deployment of resources to achieve departmental goals
• Provide coaching, guidance and support and ensure personal development plans are in place to address development needs and career aspirations of teams
• Establish appropriate succession plans with defined development initiatives
Other responsibilities
Ensure successful implementation of the ADAX ERP system and the achievement of efficiencies, as far as the finance function is concerned.
