Our client a leader in the investment industry requires the service of a Senior Legal Advisor.


Key performance areas:

? Drafting and checking of all agreements.
? Assisting, with legal advice on the structuring of financial transactions and the implementation thereof.
? Keeping the company up to date with changes in the statutory and common law.
? Advising, researching and drafting opinions relating to financial markets i.e. all aspects regarding financial institutions, exchange control, derivative instruments, scrip lending
? Incident management and litigation on client matters
? Ensuring client relationship management and the implementation of independent evaluation of the performance of the legal team
? Ensuring that efficient and effective legal processes and procedures are in place to ensure proper risk management is sustained
? Documenting and implementing a suitable “Standard Legal Approval Process” for all the business units to formally approve agreements
? Standardization of Agreements and preparation of templates for Non-Standards
? Briefing and consulting with the Head of Legal on complex technical matters
? Identification and reporting on legal risks to the Head of Legal
? Drafting, vetting and negotiating commercial and other agreements with third parties (including Regulatory and Supervisory bodies) as well as internal clients
? Researching and providing legal opinions and comments on legislation
? Pro-active management and briefing of outside counsel when require
? Keeping abreast of, reviewing, interpreting and implementing, legislative developments
? General legal advisor responsibilities

The successful candidate must have:

? Matric with LLB Degree
? Admitted attorney of the high court and at least 8 years’ experience as a practicing commercial attorney at partner or senior level
? A tertiary business/commercial qualification is advantageous
? Meticulous attention to detail
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse range of clients
? Exceptional drafting ability and communication skills
? Knowledge of the South African legal, financial and taxation system
? Reasonable financial and economic literacy
? Computer literacy, including the ability to use a word processing package (Office Suite)
? Conduct research using the internet and other legal resources
? Experience within Wealth management environment is advantageous

? Knowledge of standardized industry specific transaction documentation
? Knowledge of tax
