The purpose of this position:
• To provide specialist legal advice on policy, regulation, strategy and procedures for water resource development, entitlements to water and water use charges, draft agreements and documents relating to the purchase and sale of property, servitudes and other land acquisition related matters, water law, administrative law, matters, environmental law advice, opinion work and preparation of responses to claims from interested and affected parties, engineering and construction law related agreements, opinions and advice, queries and documents, notices as required in terms of the Promotion of Administrative Justice, and the Expropriation Act, development and implementation of land acquisition policies, strategies and administrative procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Advisory and legal services with regards to land acquisition processes, strategies and policies.
• Provide advice and legal services in the development and implementation of appropriate land acquisition policies, strategies and action plans.
• Work with company’s internal legal advisers/Consultants to draft land acquisition notices and advises on compensation claims.
• Draft notices as required in terms of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (“PAJA”) and assist in the PAJA process.
2. Develop an effective administrative structure and system for land acquisition
• Manage the development, maintenance and functioning of a land and asset database and inventory.
• Manage the development of a documentation and mapping system.
• Manage the administrative issues related to land that company needs to acquire or has been acquired.
• Manage the administration related to the transfer of land to company.
3. Gain specialist experience and knowledge on water law, environmental law, land acquisition legislation, procedures and compliance.
• Provide legal advice on matters relating to water law, development, entitlements to water, water use, water licences and water. Use charges in terms of the National Water Act, the Water Services Act and other relevant legislation.
4. Provide prompt accurate advice on engineering and construction related contracts, matters claims, opinions and responses to consultants and contractors.

REQUIREMENTS
BA/Bcom, LLB. Attorneys Admission Examination and preferably Admitted Conveyance.
At least 8 years post qualification experience with high level commercial law and drafting background.
The candidate is expected to have practiced in and have a detailed understanding of at least the following areas: property and/or planning law, water law, land acquisition, environmental law, engineering and construction law, and drafting of Service Agreements.
