A leading multinational telecoms company have a great job opportunity for a Commercial Legal (Intellectual Property) to join their team in Johannesburg. You will manage all aspects of commercial legal requirements, transactions and initiatives within the company, with a primary focus on Intellectual Property. Your key job responsibilities as the Senior Manager: Commercial Legal (Intellectual Property) in Johannesburg will include:

- Implementing and, where required, updating IP Policy, including creating appropriate Ways of Working or Standard Operating Procedures in relation to various IP aspects listed below and for the implementation of the policy
- Managing worldwide IP (mainly trademarks, but including domain names, patents and registered designs) portfolio
- Building systems to ensure that IP is identified, protected, maintained and enforced in multiple jurisdictions
- Facilitating clearance searches including trademarks use and registrability searches, and patent freedom to operate searches
- Filing and prosecuting patent, trade mark and registered design applications across multiple jurisdictions
- Managing the renewal of trade marks, patents and designs across multiple jurisdictions

Requirements for this Senior Manager: Commercial Legal (Intellectual Property) job in Johannesburg:

- Minimum 4-year Academic Degree with Honours (LLB or equivalent preferred)
- Admission as an attorney with a strong academic record
- Technical qualification (BSc or BIng) will be an advantage
- Group 1 SAIIPL (South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law) exams are preferred. Group 2 SAIIPL exams will be an advantage
- Preferably membership of professional body (Law Society of SA)
- Preferably member of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Lawyers (SAIIPL)
- Strong knowledge of South African and foreign IP laws
- MBA / Masters advantageous
- Minimum 5 – 8 years’ of Legal Experience at a reputable law firm
- Minimum of 3 years’ PQE in IP law
- In-house IP experience will be an advantage
- Experience in strategic brand management / IP portfolio management
- A track record of providing innovative, commercially sensible solutions to complex IP matters
- Experience drafting and negotiating transactions involving the procurement, development, licensing and support of technology products and services, and intellectual property
