A Leading Mining Company is looking for a Senior Manager: Resettlement that meets the below requirements;

To scope, engage, plan, budget and oversee implementation of the approved resettlement strategy, programme of work, associated with resettlement (economic displacement and/or physical displacement) and livelihood restoration.

This will be undertaken in conjunction with the Social Performance, projects and other HOD teams. The position will be responsible for the project management informed by the approved Life of Mine Plan. They will ensure that the relevant skilled personnel, internal or external, are secured to undertake the resettlements in line with the Company’s Social Way and IFC Performance Standard 5 on Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement and supporting guidance notes, Responsible to ensure that associated projects are delivered within timeframes, budgets, and quality standards and in a sustainable fashion. This includes grave relocations. Advise on resettlement at other sites.

This role has a strong operational function which involves proactive engagement and identification of community needs and risks, the development of effective strategies for resettlement and livelihood restoration, and their implementation.

Resettlement and Livelihood Restoration Strategy Development - perform strategic social, economic and environmental scanning
Ensure all resettlements (economic displacement and/or physical displacement) and livelihood restorations are managed and completed/ ensure sustainability of impacted communities

Project planning and execution
Provide support services on all matters relating to resettlement at the operations
Render support services to mineral rights and legal functions of the department, as well as to other departments and divisions such as Social Performance and Projects.
Stakeholder engagement
Administration
Livelihood and Resettlement monitoring

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Social Science Degree or development studies related degree such as Development Planning
8-10 years experience of resettlement and livelihood restoration
Experience in Social Performance, stakeholder engagement or related matters
Negotiation experience
Conflict resolution experience
Interpersonal and communication skills
Good lobbying and network skills
Lateral thinking skills
Analytical skills
Computer literacy
Project Management

IFC Performance Standard 5 on Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement and supporting guidance notes
Related South African Legislation
Understanding of best practice in human rights such as the UN Guiding Principles and Conflict-Sensitive Business Practice.
Business Management qualification would be advantageous

Certificate of Fitness
