The Mechatronics and Micro-Manufacturing group is part of the organisation’s Materials Science and Manufacturing unit, focusing on research programmes aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of the South African manufacturing industry. MMM is dedicated to the development and deployment of these cutting-edge technologies to ensure that South Africa becomes a world-class manufacturing nation.

MMM seeks a self-motivated, dynamic and innovative person with a track-record of achievement, to inspire both internal and external stakeholders. This person will be part of the Mechatronics and Micro Manufacturing group.

The group is currently focussing on projects in Robotics, Vision Systems and Intelligent manufacturing systems. Outputs and impact are achieved through innovative products delivered to the market place.

Qualification, skills and experience required for this position are:
• BSc (Hons), MSc or PhD in Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering with a minimum of 7 to10 years of relevant experience.
• Candidates with National Diploma, B-Tech or BSc degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics field with 10 to 15 years of relevant experience will be considered.
• Focus and interest in Mechatronics, Mechanical Design, Control Systems, Robotics.

• Good Solid Works or CAD skills

Responsibilities
• Mechanical lead designer on various projects that result in products.
• Drive product development process.
• Execute projects and deliver results on brief, on budget and on time.
• Raising personal, team and institutional profiles through publishing of original research and presenting work at national and international conferences and workshops.
• Interacting with peers within fields of expertise both within and outside the organisation.
• Interacting with clients (internal and external) and developing long term relationships.
• Effective communication and motivation in team context.
• Work in a multidisciplinary environment with clients, engineers, scientist, project managers and technicians.

Offer
