An innovative company specialising in the design, manufacture, commissioning and management of industrial waste water treatment systems.

· BSc (Mechanical Engineering) / B Eng. (Mechanical), B Tech (Mechanical) with 8 years minimum experience.

· Post engineering degree project qualification (preferable)

· 4 years minimum experience in mechanical engineering and design.

· 4 years minimum experience in project engineering and management.

· Knowledge in chemical plant and equipment design / fabrication / testing / installation / commissioning

· Knowledge in chemical plant and equipment project engineering, controls and management

Responsibilities & Duties:

· Deputise for the Project Manager when requested.

· Responsible for the project engineering and control of all mechanical equipment, mechanical handling and packaged units on assigned projects.

· Responsible for preparation and approval of project related documents and engineering notes in conjunction with the Engineering Department.

· Ensure that project engineering activities on assigned projects are executed within budgeted and approved schedules in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with company procedures and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa.

· Review and approve project schedules with the Project Manager to see that all dates, rates of progress and engineering periods are realistic.

· Prepare and approve project engineering specific standards and job notes.

· Prepare commercial documentation, RFQ’s, notes and requirements on assigned projects.

· Compare and approve vendor/contractor project documentation and general notes. Prepare technical vendor/contractor bid analysis and evaluation reports for assigned projects equipment and works.

· Review and approve assigned projects cost code documentation for claims, purchase orders and invoices.

· Compile monthly and/or weekly projects reports.

· Attend coordination meetings and project engineering review meetings with vendors of major equipment and plant as required.

· Review document requirements with vendors/contractors and assist Procurement Department in compiling Vendor Document Requirement forms

· Assist Project Engineers with the expediting of vendor documents and EOJD.

· Review and approve vendor/contractor documents for equipment/plant and distribute and/or squad check with engineering department.

· Review documents in conjunction with Procurement Department on all out-off order claims by vendor/contractor for an increase in the engineering scope of work.

· Give guidance (or facilitate) to client, project engineers, external consultant engineers and inspectors on equipment, plant and packaged units on basic engineering matters. Coordinate review of all engineering aspects of supplied vendor/contractor’s drawings and documentation.

· Perform inspections and witness factory/site acceptance testing where required. Ensure that equipment, plant and packaged units manufacture, testing, installation, commissioning and hand-over to operations and/or client are complete in accordance with the approved project schedule, standards and within allocated budget/schedule.

· Advise the Engineering Manager of any slippages and their causes and proposed corrective action.

· Advise the Project Manager of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups/vendor/contractor/client.

· Co-ordinate with Engineering Department and/or contractors and ensure Pr.Eng certified documents are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.

· Notify the Engineering Manager of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.

· Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content, to the Project Manager.

· Provide information where necessary to estimating the cost of contract changes, Alert the Project Manager to circumstances considered to be subject to contract change.

· Keep abreast of development in the projects engineering field.

· Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects.

· Assist where necessary in the compilation of engineering documents, operating manuals and mechanical catalogues.

· Assist in the training and knowledge transfer of engineering and projects expertise to company personnel as required.

· Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Project Engineering Manager.

· Perform general works QC inspection and acceptance where required in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa and project standards
