Structural Engineer (Lead)

Short Description:

The successful incumbent will be a lead drawing/design engineer on concrete and structural steel constructions and will be required to travel regularly for work related assignments. Design functions will include: Civil structures like water and water sewage treatment structures; to include post tensioned water storage spaces with flat and curved roofs and bridges, as well as commercial and industrial buildings.
Must lead structural designs & execute concepts and designs up to completion thereof; including seismic & analysing designs. Stand in for the head of department when necessary. Guiding or counselling jnr engineers while monitoring their work. Ensure marking of concrete and structural steel works.

Job Description:

Vast knowledge of reinforced cement design, steel structures & the design of water retaining reservoirs which will include tensioned concrete.
Represent , investigate & analyse engineering obstacles
The ability to provide solutions / designing or developing thereof to assist with said obstacles.
Detailing and specifying solutions.
Applying fundamental knowledge to engineering problems which may arise.
Manage activities related to the construction/ engineering works.
Conducting engineering work related assignments ethically.
Address reasonable social/cultural environment effects of work activities.
Guiding or counselling junior engineers while monitoring their work.
Handling of architect & client queries and attend all work relevant meetings.
Maintenance of the ISO departmental registrations.
Expected to supervise construction works / projects with an assigned period of time.
Site instructions and attend site meetings.
Ensure compliance with the project specifications/design standards
Knowledge of new design codes and programmes.
Any added office or site duties as assigned by the Structures HOD.
Reporting.
Stand in for the head of department when necessary.
Ensure marking of concrete and structural steel works.

Minimum Requirements:

10 - 15 years experience in similar role
2 - 5 years post ECSA registration experience within a design capacity / 10 years experience within design
Registered PrEng / M.Eng required
Structural Software knowledge of E-Tabs and Prokon is essential
ISO 9000 quality management
Driver’s licence is essential
Flexible for regular travel
