A company specialising in Intelligent Transport Systems require a seasoned Systems Database Developer to join a growing and dynamic team. Salary: Market Related Availability:

POSITION DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW
Develop applications, scripts and procedures, Administer database and server systems.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create and modify Informix 4gl and SPL stored procedures
• Create and modify shell scripts and SQL scripts
• Do database design
• Create and modify database structures, including tables, triggers, indexes, references, constraints etc.
• Create and maintain documentation relevant to DBA work
• Maintain development of Informix databases and Linux servers
• Assist support with any database, Linux or 4gl –related requests
• Follow Efkon development-related procedures for maintaining software versions, change-requests and administration
• Maintain the data model
• Compile and provide software version upgrade scripts for MIS upgrades and new installations
• Maintenance and improvement of existing software (sold to clients and used internally) and supporting databases,
• Writing and updating Administration guidelines and Installation Manuals for both existing and new software,
• databases and scripts, in-house and 3rd party
• Building software releases to be released to clients and other departments
• Client liaison where needed to either supply required information, or to gather information regarding functionality,
• operation or anomalies of installed software
• Setup of software environment as well as installation and configuration of said software to requirements set.
• Participate with team members in problem resolution and user support requests
• Assisting junior members with trouble resolution
• Participate with database design and maintenance sessions
• Developing skills for team members to address the changing deployment environment
• Mentoring junior members progress
• Assisting in planning for skill improvements
• Assisting in team management tasks

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Tertiary qualification in database and system administration preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Experience required in Informix and MySQL database administration.
• Experience required in relational database design, SQL, Stored procedure language and Informix 4GL development.
• Experience required in Linux / Unix system administration and programming.
• Problem solving.
• Ability to motivate and lead team.
• Ability to communicate effectively to management.
• Ability to create and maintain documentation to accepted levels.
