Description: A company in the alternative and complementary health market is seeking a Technical and Product Development Officer to join their team. The main purpose of this position is to provide product development support in terms of all specified and non-specified elements that contribute towards the development and improvement of various products. Responsibilities include: Providing scientific and/or dietetic support and supplying advice to all departments within the organizations. Development and improvement of products in line with current regulations, insuring optimal formulations at an affordable price to the consumer. Assisting in compiling dietetic tools. Assisting with clinical trials: identifying resources, managing the project and implementing the data attained within the company. Analysis and interpretation of data.

Key Requirements: Relevant qualification in dietetics/nutrition/food technology. Honours will be an advantage. HPCSA registration will be advantageous. Knowledge of powder supplements (i.e. meal replacements shakes and supplements). At least 3 years’ experience in research and development in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical or food industry. Experience in the complimentary medicines field within a technical capacity will be an advantage. Knowledge of and experience in the food labelling law and calculating nutritional values (for labels).

Additional Requirements: Knowledge of new product development focussed on safety, efficacy and quality of the product. Ability to analyse and interpret data (related to journal articles, monographs etc.). Technical trend analysis related to new product technologies. Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements would be desirable. Good verbal and written communication skills. Good computer literacy. Strong administrative and organising skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Methodical, results driven individual that pays attention to detail. Excellent problem solving skills. Proactive and persistent. Pressure resilient. Remuneration: R15 000 – R25 000 ctc, dependent on successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
