A vacancy for a Technical Specialist/ Chemical Analyst has arisen in Port Elizabeth. This is a Middle
Manager position and reports to the Corporate Technical Manager.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
We seek a suitably qualified individual to provide a technical consultation service to all Sites so that authoritative scientific/technical advice is readily available for problem solving, customer education and new product/ process introduction.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Visiting customers on a regular basis and advise them in general science and specifically on the unique properties of company products.
• Advise and obtain approval of specifications.
• Provide technical support to raw material manufacturers to ensure continuous cost efficient supply of appropriate products.
• Identify and technically approve suitable supply source for add on components to assist timeous and profitable new part development.
• Liaise with PVB, links and glass suppliers on technical issues.
• Ensure effective team work practices according to Company requirements and best practices.
• Ensure effective participation and problem solving within the team.
• Provide technical consultation to the sites so that complex scientific/technical queries are promptly answered.
• Coaching, mentoring and training of new and existing technicians and specialists in line with methodologies, how processes work, etc.
• Find alternative suppliers and products in order to save money for the organisation.
• Carry out specific development projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE The successful candidate should:
• Be in possession of Post Graduate qualification in Physical Chemistry (MSC).
• Have 5-10 years’ industrial and analytical chemistry experience.
• Have research and process experience.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
• Sound scientific understanding of glass (ceramics), plastics and metals.
• Sound research methodology knowledge.
• Knowledge of theoretical aspects of all areas of laminating and toughened glass process.

ATTITUDES/BEHAVIOUR REQUIRED
• Have the ability to lead and motivate teams (strong people skills).
• Possess excellent planning and organising ability, coupled with good problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Have the ability to research, test and prove the conceptual approach.
