Technical Support Technician is need to join the IT department at one of our client in the Financial Sector based in the Johannesburg CBD, who is going to perform onsite hardware, software and peripheral updates and ensure repairs in the organization.

Job Description:
•Explore and implement cost saving initiatives.
•Manage costs and expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies.
•Deliver exceptional IT Support service that exceeds customers’ expectations through proactive, innovative and appropriate solutions.
•Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including end-users, SME’s, project managers and senior staff members by providing input to business requirements.
•Manage service desk and incidents to provide efficient IT support, aligned to SLA's and agreed standards.
•Minimise system downtime through pro-active monitoring and planning.
•Ensure trending and minimisation of recurring problems.
•Maintain relevant systems to ensure integrity of data / functionality - (amongst other) by ensuring Anti-Virus is installed on all PC's, all patches up to date, PC names up to date, server connections accurate and proactively provide system maintenance and support solutions.
•Manage agreed projects to ensure successful implementation within agreed timelines.
•Provision of an efficient IT administration service through careful and timeous planning, reporting and updating of all related information.
•Comply, understand and implement all steps within IT development and meet governance in terms of legislative and audit requirements.
•Manage own development to increase own competencies.
•Support peers and colleagues across IT functions through knowledge management /sharing / mentoring / coaching.

Additional Requirements
•Designing, implementing and supporting DB2 UDB databases (IBM UDB 9.x / 10.x), in a Windows/Linux (Suse/Redhat) environment (as a primary function) as well as MySQL and Postgrads databases in a Linux environment.
•DBA provides technical and project team leadership to business systems and application developers through a combination of specialised knowledge and expertise in company business unit operations and database management systems.
•DBA will work in a team environment supporting non-production and production databases on Redhat, Suse Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms.
•DBA will work closely with application developers, data modelers, data analysts, other DBAs and technical resources to support applications with requirements for high availability, high performance, and high reliability.
•DB2 Specialist will report to the BCIS IT Operations – Branch Central IT Manager
•Provide a managed database environment using DB2 and all related analysis services.
•Responsible for upgrading and keeping the database environment up to date and patched as per the required standards and architecture roadmap.
•Responsible for the physical implementation of the databases, database storage structures, allocation of system storage and planning of future storage requirements for the application databases.
•Modification of the database-structure to support business needs, as well as populating and updating database tables.
•Ensure overall health of the databases including maintaining of data integrity.
•Implementing required database audit, security and privacy measures as well as controlling and monitoring user access to the databases in line with company standards.
•Maintain and write scripts to maintain, monitor and support the databases and processes
•Plan and perform database backup and recovery processes including high availability and disaster recovery.
•Analyse data in both production and testing environments.
•Ensuring that databases operate at optimal level by proactively monitoring and adjusting individual database structures, reorganizing database objects and tuning data access routines as conditions warrant. Includes analysis of cost and access plans and index recommendation.
•Design and prepare operational documentation (including logical designs, physical designs, entity relationship modelling, disaster recovery, operational processes).
•Database and table implementation and designs for any new applications.
•Troubleshooting any problems in all BCIS database environments.
•Assist with trouble shooting application issues in all environments.
•Liaison with developers, systems analysts, project managers, business owner regarding all project-initiatives.
•BCIS database MIS reporting for other departments on an ad-hoc basis including monthly reporting.
•Assisting in developing database test cases as well as testing of same.
•Archiving processes and BI extracts to be designed, implemented and automated.
•Ability to implement databases and changes within agreed timeframes.
•Foster good working relationships and collaboration with the other Group members and vendors for ongoing development and future support and co-operation
•Ensure architecture and design integrity is maintained throughout the application and database implementation process.
•Solid DB2 UDB installation/upgrade/maintenance and operations experience on Redhat/Linux and/or Microsoft Windows
•DB2 Certification preferred.
•J2EE programming and J2EE application-server (i.e. Websphere) exposure is beneficial
•Ability to establish strategic technical direction and translate concepts into actionable, implementation plans and identify technologies that improve productivity.
•Solid experience working in a multi-disciplinary team, fostering collaboration and teamwork.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
•Degree or Diploma and the required IT Certification
•3 - 5 Years related experience
•Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Information Systems, Computer Science or other quantitative discipline from an accredited school. (min NQF5)
•Minimum 5 years current, solid, practical DB2 UDB experience.
•Additional Microsoft SQL, MySQL or Postgrads experience will be beneficial.
•Experience in the analysis of business processes and mapping of data to processes.
•Solid understanding of both logical and physical relational DBMS.
•Experience in the Banking Industry will be added advantage
•DBA must be experienced in Linux/Windows system administration and application development SQL and stored procedures.
•SQL and UNIX shell scripting experience is required for monitoring and automation.
