Underground Electrician with HT experience
1. Overall Job Purpose
Brief statement outlining the overall purpose/reason for existence of the job (one or two sentences).
To perform high level complexity repairs, maintenance, overhauls and constructions of electrical equipment and facilities in order to ensure the availability of engineering equipment and material to meet engineering objectives.

2. Job Requirements
Minimum Qualification: Grade 10/N1 or equivalent qualification
N3/Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (Advantage)
Additional Qualification: Electrician Trade Test
Methane test certificate
Loco (Battery/Overhead) cert.
High voltage (6600 volts and above)
Legal Requirements: Certificate of competence
Additional Conditions / Requirements: Medically fit and healthy
First Aid Certificate
Job Related Experience: Proven competencies during period of apprenticeship on a mine or around 1 year relevant experience as an electrician.

Underground Mining Processes:
• Repairs electrical equipment, installations and units according to standards and procedures and manufacturers specifications.
• Conduct HT, LT cable terminations
• Maintain, repair and install electrical motors,
• Maintain and terminate mini-substations
• Maintain, install and repair starter boxes,
• Maintain, install and repair gully boxes
• Repair and maintain electric pumps
• Maintain transformers
• Install and repair fans
• Test electrical equipment
• Conduct work as per job card received from foreman,
• Receive parts from store
General electrician support:
• Maintains electrical equipment, installations and units according to standards and procedures, prescribed maintenance schedules and manufacturers specifications.
• Constructs electrical installations (e.g. overhead lines) and units (e.g. sub-stations) according to standards and procedures and relevant drawings.
• Overhauls electrical equipment and facilities according to standards and procedures, relevant drawings and specifications.
• Maintains Health, Safety and Environmental practices according to standards and procedures.
• Performs end of shift procedures according to standards and procedures e.g. cleans tools and working area, stores tools and locks up.
• Performs any other activity necessary for the effective completion of his/her work.
Winding Engines
• Perform maintenance on AC and DC Winders
• Conduct daily, weekly and monthly inspections
• Maintain tachnograph (changing paper and ink)
• Maintain the main Eskom consumer substation.
• Perform routine maintenance according to year planner
• Repair winding engine in case of break-downs
• Responsible of maintenance of winding engine with regard to: brakes, hydraulics, drum bearings, clutches, valves, jack catchers, dolly wheels, conveyors, pumps, air cylinders
• Assist with building projects and electrical construction work
• Set priorities, schedule work and conduct basic administration duties, such as the legal sign-off on a daily basis
