Our client, a leading Gold Mining Group is looking to employ a Unit Manager: Metallurgy for their Technical Surface Operations facility near Westonaria in the Gauteng Province

Summary

The Company is seeking the services of an experienced Unit Manager – Technical for the Surface Operations. To succeed in this role you will need to have a proven track record in operating and optimizing gold processing plants and developing leading practice in surface reclamation operations.

The appointee should:

Have a B-tech / BSc Chemical or Metallurgy Engineering as minimum level of qualification and a minimum of 10 years industry experience.
Have a minimum of 5 years Metallurgical production and technical experience at the appropriate level (e.g. Production Superintendent, senior metallurgist).
Have excellent project management skills and a proved track record of business improvement and operational effectiveness development.
Have strong financial modelling and business planning skills.
Have experience in production and business data and information systems management
Be competent in managing plant safety management systems in full compliance of the Mines Health and Safety act and although Sibanye does not formally accredit the operations the candidate must be competent in the application of the principles contained within industry compliance guidelines for safety management (ICMI, OSHAS 18001).
Have sound knowledge of environmental management principles.
Have a sound track record of understanding and managing profitability and sustainability.
Have experience in working with multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
Demonstrate sound People Management Skills.
Have Financial Management skills and experience.
Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation development in English.
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Gold occupational Health Centre

Key responsibilities includes:

Responsible for monitoring, maintaining and reporting on excellence in the technical and operational aspects of the metallurgy and surface operations.
Function as a key technical resource within the surface operations and metallurgy to establish sound reporting formats at the various levels in the operations that highlight key performance indicators versus plan at the correct level of detail for each level in the organization
Improve the metallurgical accounting standards to align to the Amira code for Metallurgical accounting as applicable to the operations. Implement standards and consistency in definition and understanding of plant metallurgical and cost accounting data within the current operational review process
Develop and manage a group benchmarking process and establish it as a value adding process to install group best practice across all process steps as applicable in each operation
Develop and manage a group technical information system that details all the key design criteria of the metallurgical plants in the group
Co-ordinate the business planning process for surface operations along with the Team captains and finance managers from each business unit and the Surface MRM department
Defining and aligning the Plant Strategy with the Business Strategic intent of the Organization.
Actively liaise, consult, involve, participate and co-operate with Mining Units, Service departments and other relevant Stakeholders.
Take full responsibility for the technical guidance and operational effectiveness of metallurgical training in the surface operations.
Drive continuous business and process improvement in a visible manner
Ensure that Metallurgical standards and strategic and operational plans are executed at the Operations by conducting audits, conducting strategic planning from a region perspective, on an ongoing basis.
Keep abreast of latest developments, innovations and technologies internationally with an emphasis on Metallurgy, by means of liaising with other mining houses and research organizations, and by representing the Company at industry level and attending meetings, colloquiums and seminars as needed.
Assist in development and implementation of all mandatory codes of practice as set out in the plant operational procedure
Co-ordinate internal ICMI compliance audits and ensure that internal standards for the cyanide management processes in the plants comply with the ICMI code of practices although Sibanye is no longer a signatory to the code.
Contribute to the development of sound environmental practices in Surface operations and Metallurgy.
