The Biovac Institute requires a VLP Packer to join team of dynamic individuals based in Pinelands. Being the only one of its kind in South Africa, Biovac strives to respond to the vaccine needs of the developing countries, specifically South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. This is a particularly exciting time for the company as it continues to grow, strengthen and build on its success and further develop its capabilities, products, services and market diversification.

The successful incumbent will report to the Team Leader.

The Key Performance Areas for this position include:
• Inspection, labelling and packaging of vaccines & related items in compliance
• Achieving / maintaining of the viewing, labelling and packaging facilities and processes in full compliance with the current regulations and guidelines - both local and international.
• Ensure compliance in accordance with (Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965, Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974) and the organizations policies, procedures and other applicable laws.

Duties and responsibilities
• Ensure that lines run according to schedule at all times e.g. no unnecessary disruption of activities.
• Follow all the instructions SOPs, manuals, work instructions and delegations relating to production operations (manual and automated)
• Maintains a healthy and safe work environment by implementing the requirements of the EHS principles
• Complete assigned production records accurately and in real time
• Understands basic principles GMP of assigned procedures and is able to identify gaps and trouble shoot if necessary.
• Follows all gowning and hygiene requirements according to cGMP
• Strictly practices GDocP at all times
• Immediately alerts Team Leader/Supervisor/Section Head of deviations or possible non-adherence.
• Execute all the instructions and delegations relating to production operations (manual and automated) and ensures their strict implementation e.g. (list is not all inclusive) Receive product and PPMs on the line, Prepare product and PPMs as per batch book instruction, Printing of labels with Printer where allocated to particular staff member, Execute the packaging process of product as per batch book instruction, PPM waste shredding is completed immediately at completion of batch upon Team Leader’s instruction, Return rejects to the cold room for placement in the reject cage, etc.

Experience & industry knowledge
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry standards and guidelines in GMP and Quality Systems
Standard Operating Procedures
• Basic Technical machinery knowledge
• Current GMP knowledge and understanding
• cGMP vaccine manufacturing- quality and regulatory compliance knowledge, i.e. MCC and WHO
• Quality management Systems

Other requirements
• Grade 12 / Matric, Trade School Certificate or equivalent (including Maths as a subject)
• 1 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical/ biotech/vaccine packaging environment.
• Knowledge of a sterile manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment
• Shift working
• Own reliable transport would be an advantage.
