Kendrick Recruitment are now seeking a Wine Steward for one of the Top Hotels in the Cape Town Area. This is an exclusive position who will have the privilege of working with the companies Head Sommelier and providing personalised wine and beverage service in line with the establishments guest offering, striving for the highest possible wine culture and unique guest experience. Duties and responsibilities within this position will includeEnsuring set up is done:Lunch, dinner and functionsGlasses, decanters, gueridonWine tastingBar and cocktail setup - equipment, glassware & stock (including stock rotation - FIFO)Daily hosting of tastings for guestsEngaging guests in conversations about personal wine preferences, items on the food menu etc, resulting in wine recommendations, as opposed to mere order taking. This includes guided trips to the wine cellars.Serving wine & champagne and ensuring regular top up during serviceEnsure that all drinks are served in the correct glasses, at the correct temperature and where applicable with the correct garnish.Maintaining a high profile and tactful personal manner with guests during service times· Liaising with the Executive Chef with regards to menu items, in order to ensure best possible wine pairing experience for guests, and communicating suggestions to other service staff· Receiving, checking and unpacking orders – inform Sommelier of any discrepanciesKeep wine cellars in immaculate appearance and order.· To keep abreast of wine industry innovations, trends, new suppliers and products at all times To be considered you must have:f]Excellent knowledge about South African wines, wine regions and vineyards, varietals, vintages[if !supportLists]· [endif]Knowledge of international wines[if !supportLists]· [endif]Knowledge of bar set up and cocktails, beers, spirits[if !supportLists]· [endif]Knowledge of cellar management· Charming[if !supportLists]· [endif]Finesse[if !supportLists]· [endif]Mature[if !supportLists]· [endif]Sophisticated[if !supportLists]· [endif]Well travelled· Excellent guest relations skills and an obsession with service[if !supportLists]· [endif]Must be able to Multi-Task[if !supportLists]· [endif]Must be flexible[if !supportLists]· [endif]Must be able to plan and organise effectively[if !supportLists]· [endif]Excellent interpersonal skills – Must be able to communicate with international guests[if !supportLists]· [endif]Fluent in spoken and written English[if !supportLists]· [endif]Excellent attention to detail[if !supportLists]· [endif]Excellent time management[if !supportLists]· [endif]Computer literate, including MICROS, Word, Excel, OPERA (beneficial)[if !supportLists]· [endif]Completion of a formal wine qualification, preferably internationally recognized, e.g. WSET Level 3[if !supportLists]· [endif]Minimum 3 years industry related (wine service) practical experience in a 5* or similar environment Salary for this position is to be discussed upon interview but is competitive to the right candidate.
