About the job:

Our client, a leading scientific and technology research organisation has a vacancy for a Writer/Research Communication Practitioner in the Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations portfolio. The incumbent will write and compile content on the organization’s research, development and innovation to contribute to positive organisational reputation. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

1. Source, write and appropriately package content to communicate the organization’s scientific achievements, research progress and impact across science disciplines;
2. Create awareness and understanding of the organization’s work through concise writing;
3. Identify potential opportunities to promote the organization’s research and development work and achievements, and compile such content;
Assist in the implementation of the objectives and plans for research and development content;
4. Contribute to the improvement of the understanding of the work of the organization by writing about the organisation’s research and development;
Write appropriately angled content for any given number of strategic communications purposes.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in communication or journalism, or an equivalent qualification with at least five years’ experience in writing articles in which best practices of communication is evident;
2. Advanced written and verbal skills (English);
3. A keen understanding of what is ‘newsworthy’;
4. Ability to work under pressure and independently;
5. Ability to multi-task;
6. An understanding of the scientific process.
