The company has more passion, more locations, more fleets and more customers than any other car rental company in the world. The history of Avis South Africa dates back to 1967. This came as a result of a joint venture between Federale (originally established in Bloemfontein) and Avis Rent A Car Systems Incorporate. After the venture, the business expanded steadily. By 1972 they were in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. By the mid-1980s, the company had grown into the largest licensee outside the USA. The business also began to expand beyond the borders into Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland. Avis became the first car rental company to become carbon neutral. The company’s vision is to exceed to exceed customer expectations at every interface. Their values include Empathy, Honesty and Humanity. Avis has four cornerstones that bind them together in one culture: Choose to people, EQ vs IQ, Balance in life, and Diversity. Avis South Africa has six Group Companies: Avis MiniLease, Zeda Car Sales, Avis Fleet Services, Barloworld, Car Mall Car Sales, and Sizwe Car Sales.

It's challenging working for this company and also extremely fun at the same time. It demands a lot of effort and patience from the employee. Opportunities are limited as managing roles don't apply for additional training for employees to further their careers. Its rear employees that work extremely hard and put in a lot of effort, get recognised for it. Its definitely worth trying and building experience. It teaches you a lot of different aspects of a business and the corporate world. You need to work extremely hard, but I'm sure you will find it rewarding.

Working at Avis feels like a big family, with great learning experiences. The pay is great, plus having social and wellness benefits. The working environment can be very demanding so you have to be very efficient, but with a great management that is fair and motivational, it can be done. Sometimes not enough room to grow and the workload can be excessive, plus working long hours.

This company is perfect for someone who appreciates working in a big team, being motivated by the corporate image and slogan (We try harder) and working with very clear structures and rules. These rules and structures makes it very easy for individuals to work towards your goals. The team spirit is constantly re-motivated by corporate participation in events (eg 702walk-the-talk), incentives for exceptional performance (eb. a week-end get-away) and team-building efforts within the offie (eg, decorating the office for special occasions). I really felt like I was a small component in a well-oiled machine. It was a pleasure working for AVIS - where people are more important than cars.
