An exciting opportunity is now available for a Head of Cultivation- join a fast-growing Company in the heart of the Western Cape.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:The Head of Cultivation will be responsible for the oversight and effective operations of the complete cultivating facility, including propagation, growing and harvesting. The successful incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that all systems are functioning efficiently, troubleshooting, and engaging appropriate resources for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all facilities. The incumbent will further also contribute to long-term planning for the crop, annual projections for budget estimation, and research methods to improve plant yield. The Head of Cultivation is expected to share the hands-on responsibility for all areas and be able to assess the needs of the facilities, troubleshoot a variety of problems, and engage appropriate professionals as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor s degree in Botany, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, or other related field
and/or 10 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
At least 5 years’ experience in Senior Management
Knowledge of medicinal plants will be advantageous
Experience with large scale cultivation and greenhouse cultivation essential
Experience in pest control management, propagation, indoor and outdoor cultivation in a variety of mediums, and advanced nutritional strategies.
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Experience of working in a regulated environment
Mechanical aptitude

KEY PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AREAS:
Oversee all aspects of plant growth, including developing a detailed plan and timeline for plant production from seed/clone to harvest.
Serve as an expert in horticulture, plant cultivation, pest and disease control, and grow system technology
Initiates and manages a harvest schedule to consistently meet the demands of the business
Operate greenhouse automation systems to monitor and affect grow environment
Produces a product that meets all lab testing requirements at targeted yield levels with the expected amounts of active compounds.
Clearly sets out a vision for success and educates cultivation members on how their actions and accomplishments contribute to the overall success of the company
Establishes and enforces standards of accountability for cultivation staff
Regular reporting of grow status metrics and other key indicators
Completes regularly scheduled quality assessment of plants for signs of pests/disease
Ensure staff is trained and follows appropriate SOPs
Conduct research on up-to-date grow techniques
Assist with development of new strains and new production strategies with coordination with research and development
Diagnose disease and pest problems and initiate appropriate solutions
Formulate cultivation budget as directed by the Company’s needs and growth
Ensure safe grow environment, and ensure employees follow SOPs
Eliminate potential downstream effects, and determine corrective action plan
Ensure all necessary roll players are consulted regarding any pesticide issues

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Familiarity with large scale-controlled greenhouse operations;
Team Management experience
Computer skills required
Advance understanding of horticulture practices including cloning plants
Ability to identify and remedy plant disease states
Familiar with Good Agricultural Practices
