In reporting to the Managing Director, the successful incumbent will be required to provide management and mentorship to the Legal & Compliance department within the manufacturing industry, providing advice and support on all the group of companies legal & compliance matters.

Job Description
Managing the implementation of the Compliance function
Ensuring that the quality of the compliance are up to company standards
Managing the company’s compliance file
Providing legal advice and mentorship to the departmental employees
Negotiations on contracts and resolving disputes/discrepancies
Reporting on internal open matters and statuses
Drafting agreements timeously and with minimal supervision/support
Delivering agreements within the given time frame
Interpreting agreements which includes maintaining a schedule for contract performance
Maintaining an agreement register & providing ad hoc legal guidance and assistance daily
Researching of various aspects of the law & providing training within the company in respect of new/changes in the laws
Providing input on whether actions should be defended based on sound legal understanding
Appointing external attorneys and legal counsels
Negotiating settlements and counterparties
Maintaining records on litigation costs, reviewing the invoices and supporting cost optimisation- This will include resolving discrepancies prior to the submission for the director’s approval
Initiate feedback on legal and compliance matters
Legal updates summarized and submitted to all relevant directors bi-weekly
Monthly reporting - Legal and compliance calendar & reports, legal framework changes & external legal cost statements
Provide internal legal advice,with quick turnaround times on requests with concise feedback and reporting on open matters
Handling external customers and suppliers contract negotiations and dispute resolutions
Handling external law firms / legal counsel litigation matters
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Law Degree
Admitted as an Attorney
Around 5 years Corporate Law experience within a similar working environment in a Corporate Company / law firm
Around 3+ years management experience which includes exposure to various aspects of law
Knowledge of South African legislation
Able to lead/manage a team of industry professionals
