Managing Director

Purpose of the Role:
Leading, directing and overseeing the day-to-day operations and ensuring its profitability and long-term strategic direction and development.

Requirements:
Relevant qualification, minimum Bachelor’s Degree and preferably in Commerce
Minimum 5 years managerial experience, with strong leadership skills
Experience in Communication industry (Radio and Media a bonus)
Demonstrable experience to manage a business for profit, hence a requirement to understand financial statements and using the resulting information to manage the enterprise.
Demonstrable understanding of revenue generation and cost containment management.

Areas of Responsibility:

Human Relations/People Management
Retention of key permanent staff
Attraction and development of new talent
Retention of key freelance talent
Implement innovative incentive structures for retention of key staff
Increasing productivity
Ensuring appropriate training for staff
Ensuring appropriate succession planning
Ensure compliance with relevant labour legislation at all times and managing of any risks resulting from changes to existing legislation.
Maintaining healthy relations with any employee Union Representative bodies where necessary.
Interviewing applicants for staff positions and deciding, in consultation with HRO and relevant line manager or hiring and discharging of staff.
Foster an inspired and motivated team and maintaining a happy work environment as assessed by annual climate studies.

Operations:
Implementing strategy and tactical initiatives identified to Maintain and Grow Market Share in respect of both target audience and revenue
Establish best practice and continuous improvement of operational work flows and efficiencies in all departments
Manage station on air imaging in conjunction with Program Manager
Identify, Initiate, Implement and Manage successful station driven promotions in conjunction with Station Marketing and PR.
Initiate a successful CSI strategy
Establish and Increase brand visibility
Maintain healthy relationship with external sales representatives either directly or on a delegated basis via National Sales Manager.

Finance:
Setting of station budgets for approval by the Board, and achievement and improvement of the approved budgets.
Monitoring and control of costs
Monitoring of actual revenue and costs against budget and ensuring proper, timeous, adequate, complete and informative reporting
Proper financial reporting
Orderly record keeping and financial discipline
Development of new and sustainable additional revenue channels
Overall responsibility for all administration and operational matters
Arranging annual statutory audit timeously in conjunction with Financial Manager and performing all duties required in respect thereof.
Adhering to all reporting deadlines.
Ensuring an unqualified audit opinion.

Governance:
Identify and manage all business and other risks facing the station (including but not limited to legal, financial, operational, IT, On-Air and Regulatory).
Implement and maintain a proper internal control environment per department which adequately addresses and appropriately manages all business related risks.
Manage payments and other authorisations in line with Approvals Framework as approved by the Board.
Maintain membership and contact with official and regulatory organisations applicable to the radio industry
Develop and manage SLA’s with service providers.
Improve Trade Exchange Management
Ensure adherence to BCCSA code
Ensure adherence to editorial code
Ensure adherence to station’s code of conduct
Preparation and submission of monthly Exco Reports and Quarterly Board Reports – high quality, informative, complete, timeous.

Technology:
Manage all IT-related risks in conjunction with IT Manger
Create and use listener database for effective interaction with listeners.
Create and manage a CRM system for trade
Empower staff to work with up to date equipment
Enhance on air sound
Develop and improve new media platforms
Improve efficient use of technology and resultant operational efficiencies
