Job Description:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants who will be required to maintain equipment according to sound engineering practices and equipment specifications.

Tasks and Responsibilities;

Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements.
Perform equipment/machine over-inspections and diagnosing and identifying problems.
Develop, modify, construct and install related equipment required for the safe operation of all engineering equipment.
Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure.
Assist engineering teams when setting up project plans.
Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the foreman.
Comply with legal and mine safety standards and procedures in all work performed according to the Mine Health and Safety Act.
Conduct regular safety inspections and initiating corrective action if necessary.
Prioritize and supervise the tasks of subordinates in the area of responsibility.
Communicate with clients and supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performed and re-start of equipment.
Work overtime and standby when required.

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12/N2
Recognized Millwright Trade Certificate (multi-skilled in Fitting and Basic Electrical) through a recognized Apprenticeship
3 years post apprenticeship experience in an underground mining environment
Valid driver’s license (EB)

Other Skills / Competencies:

Good written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to work in a team
Successful candidate will be required to be independent, proactive thinker and have the ability to do own job planning
Basic computer literacy will be advantageous
Multi-skilled in Fitting and basic Electrical proficiency

Preference will be given to suitable candidates from the designated groups in line with the Company’s Employment Equity Policy and Plan and internal candidates. Pre-screening, profile testing, on mine assessments, medical and security clearance form part of the recruitment and selection process. Short listed candidates will be required to attend a panel interview. Employment of the successful candidate is subject to the aforementioned criteria.
