Salary: R28 – 38 000
The world’s leading medical & security services company operating from over 700 sites in 76 countries with 10,000 employees, led by 1,100 physicians and 200 security specialists is currently looking for a Nurse Manager who will in addition to fulfilling a day to day case management function in the Assistance and Response Centres, the Nurse Manager is responsible for the functional line management of the nursing team in the Assistance and Response Centres including, but not limited to, client and case allocation, case quality assurance, formal and informal performance assessment, training and development and support and mentoring of team members

Key performance areas

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE RESPONSBILITIES (INCLUDING THE RESPONSE CENTRE)
• Responsibility for medical due diligence, medical related tasks and case direction with respect to designated medical cases.
• Receive and assess relevant medically related calls from clients.
• Collect logistical, medical and collateral histories pertaining to the medical event/incident.
• Provide telephonic medical assessment of designated patients in all parts of the world, assess and monitor the appropriateness of the treatment where they are located in conjunction with the Medical Director and Coordinating Doctors.
• Give medical updates/ advice related to the case to relevant stakeholders.
• Organise and supervise appropriate medical assistance for designated Intl.SOS clients. This includes obtaining medical reports, organising referrals, monitoring the patient’s conditions, recommending appropriate means of care including medical transportation, and monitoring the progress of such.
• Obtain medical reports from treating medical staff to ascertain the suitability of patient’s treatment, monitor medical care and co-ordinate the patient’s needs for transport as appropriate.
• Collect relevant medical information to produce focused professional medical reports.
• Providing medical referrals as appropriate.
• Undertake direct contact with relevant Treating Medical Officers, Local Medical Officers and any other assistance centre resource required as appropriate to expedite the case management.
• Maintain high standards of detailed and accurate documentation including the consistent updating of case files.
• Recommend out-patient or in-patient medical care within the framework of injury and illness case management methodology, with specific reference to the client’s industry and the patient’s fitness to return to work.
• ?Direct non-medical personnel at a remote location (e.g. a commercial maritime ship captain) on how to deliver the appropriate medical care to a patient.
• Provide medical advice / direction to onsite responsible medical officers for non-emergency cases within the framework of workplace injury and illness case management and as per guidance and direction with coordinating doctor and Medical Director.
• Escalation of all cases to the Medical Director as per the relevant internal escalation criteria and guidelines.
• Provide medical assessments of patients at client sites in all parts of the world using telephone or telemedicine systems as available to assess and monitor the patient.
• Ensure appropriate reporting of cases within the set OHSA and IADC guidelines as specified and required by the relevant clients and as per directed by the Senior Medical Advisor Response Centre.
• Liaise with the Medical Director and Senior Medical Advisor Response Centre for the medical aspects of the decision to transport a patient off-site (or disembark the patient from a maritime vessel) including assessment of the necessity and the patient risks associated with the mode of transport plus the distance from the medical facility.
• Responsibility for the assessment of medical and logistical aspects of evacuations and repatriations in conjunction with the Medical Director and Coordinating Doctors., including the assessment of the necessity of an evacuation and the means by which it should take place ( i.e. air-ambulance /commercial carrier / seated / stretcher / escort type / medical equipment etc.) where required

NURSE MANAGEMENT
• Work with the Medical Directors and SOM/OM/AOM as appropriate to ensure a seamless service in aspects of both medical and operational excellence, promoting good working relationships and communication between the operations and medical teams in the Assistance and Response Centres.
• Responsible for daily case management in the nursing team with hands on approach when required.
• Responsibility for ensuring that there is an appropriate medical handover of cases at the beginning/end of each shift.
• Direct the medical frequency /intensity of medical contacts by nursing staff with treating doctors, clients, patients and their family members as appropriate.
• Responsible for the planning and progress of medical hospitalisation cases in conjunction with MD and SOM/OM/AOM as applicable.
• Determine most appropriate medical escort personnel for the specific case as appropriate in conjunction with the Medical Director and Coordinator Doctors.
• Set up and manage medical team meetings.
• •?Assist the nursing team with medical case escalation to a Coordinating Doctor as per procedure.
• Accountable for daily client allocation and oversight and also management of urgent cases.
• Coordinate all aspects of medical delivery as applicable to the nursing team.

Education, Training and Experience
• Tertiary Nursing qualification
• Membership to the SANC
• A demonstration of completed or pursued Continuous Professional Development, such as but not limited to a post-graduate degree, diploma or relevant courses.
• Occupational Health qualification advantageous
• At least 5 years post qualification working experience of which a minimum of 2 years management/supervisory role essential
• Demonstrated understanding of working within a general Customer Service environment, with an approach that is focused on quality
• Experience within a call centre environment preferable.
• Prior experience as a coordinating nurse is preferable
• Trauma / ICU exposure
• Experience in Occupational Health, Work Place Health, or Maritime medical assistance preferred
