Our Client in the Industrial building finishes sector is looking to recruit an Operations Manager to ensure that production runs are manufactured in line with the excellence that this Company represents. As part of the senior management team you will also be jointly responsible for contributing towards the company’s long term strategic planning and operational targets. Within this role you will have direct responsibility for production staff, team leaders, programming department, workforce teams, maintenance teams and the supply chain manager/logistics.


Main purpose of the role:

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for helping to achieve the company’s projected sales turnover, budgets and profitability targets by;

• Ensuring that production runs are manufactured correctly and cost effectively, to the required quality standards and completed on time to the customers’ requirements.
• Communicating with all relevant people/departments and co-ordinating all relevant information (people, plant and processes) to ensure production output and timely delivery are achieved.
• Ensure that production and the workforce teams have the necessary manpower, competence, skill, knowledge, plant and tooling required in order to achieve production targets.
• Managing, directing and supporting the purchasing, supply chain and logistics functions to ensure materials are acquired cost effectively and are available for manufacture at the right time.
• Managing, directing and supporting the workforce teams to ensure that materials are received, located, stored and transported correctly and that the company’s stock is accurately controlled.
• Managing, directing and supporting the Programming team to achieve set targets and timescales.
• Managing, directing and supporting the maintenance team to ensure efficient and reliable equipment and that building maintenance and services are maintained.

Main Duties:

• Control the production planning/capacity planning systems ensuring production have sufficient time to manufacture products to the customer’s specification.
• Review workloads of your key departments and staff regularly.
• Monitor and review production progress against deadlines, quality and procedures.
• Adjust the production schedules as required to meet the demand of our customers and communicate changes effectively throughout the chain.
• Monitor and review manufacturing operations to ensure adherence to quality tolerances and engineering drawings.
• Ensure that all working time is cost effective and efficient.
• Ensure all plant, machinery and equipment is maintained and serviced.
• Support, monitor and manage the Supply Chain Manager through the effective purchase of all materials and parts for the company.
• Organise, plan and co-ordinate with the workforce teams all inventory and stock movement within the company.
• Ensure that the goods inward and dispatch teams are adequately resourced to sufficiently support the production and the long term goals of the business.
• Ensure that finished product is properly packed in a safe and documented way, labelled and delivered according to the expectations of the customer.
• Monitoring and reviewing all policies and procedures and systems ensuring ease of accurate use.
• Working very closely with Human Resources, ensuring the daily needs of the staff and management are met and that all HR issues are dealt with in a professional and timely manner.
• Establish personal and professional goals for all staff members using effective reviewing and performance leadership techniques.
• Research and implement new training packages for team members and follow up on added value regularly.
• Ensure that the appropriate systems and processes are in place to measure/manage staff performance and to coach and develop a high calibre, engaged, performance workforce.
• Use appropriate levels of the disciplinary system robustly deal with grievance and disciplinary issues.
• Promote, monitor, update and manage the Health and Safety systems within the company to “Best Practice” and legal standards.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Ideally educated to level 5/Degree level in Leadership and Management and/or have a relevant professional qualification.
• Possess a broad knowledge of manufacturing and production processes.
• Have an understanding of production planning systems and be able to read and understand technical drawings.
• Possess an in depth knowledge of operating the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Accreditation system.
• Have a strong working and implementation knowledge of lean systems and tools.
• The ability to build an engaged, professional motivated and focused workforce.
• Have exceptional communication, influencing and leadership skills and also be able to problem solve effectively in pressure situations.
• Ability to implement, manage and complete difficult changes within the business.
• Have a professional, fair and consistent manner that is open, honest and high integrity.
• Be personally energetic, dynamic, positive, and enthusiastic and possess the ability to think laterally and act out decisions through reasoned decision making.
