Plant Manager (Manufacturing)
Location: Kya Sands, Johannesburg
Salary: R65 000 p.m. + Benefits

Our client in the Manufacturing industry is looking for a Plant Manager.

Key responsibilities

• To attend management meetings and run daily departmental / team meetings
• To provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relations through a collaborative team-based approach
• To develop new and improved manufacturing processes needed to maintain a competitive advantage in the market place
• To submit the daily production, report the GM
• To schedule work patterns applicable to the production environment ensuring correct staff compliments are maintained (incl. management of contract staff)
• To assist the cost accountant with the ordering and control all raw materials, consumables and packaging materials
• Assist the maintenance department with the ordering of maintenance spares and equipment
• Ensure that the maintenance department services and maintains all production tooling and critical spares cupboard
• To conduct weekly training of production and maintenance staff, in addition to constant updating of training manuals
• To maintain the SABS ISO9001:2008 system relevant to the production environment such as the handling of non-conforming products and ensuring the accuracy of laboratory records etc.
• To measure and improve plant OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
• Implement Kaizen practices for continuous process and equipment improvements
• To ensure production staff are always motivated and quality conscious
• To manage the design and implementation of new projects as directed by management
• To assist with all breakdowns, fault finding and repairs outside of the capability of the production or technical staff
• To manage the maintenance department, driving the preventative maintenance schedule as well as all technical related projects to ensure that the plant and machinery are maintained at world class standards
• To attend to wage administration, maintaining the time and attendance system
• To ensure compliance with the OHSACT
• To carry out disciplinary action where necessary in accordance with the disciplinary procedures
• To manage the manufacturing operations and development activities of the plant to meet short- and long-term goals such that internal and external customers are satisfied with communications, outstanding delivery, and quality performance
• To drive to zero incidents and lost time injuries by creating a positive attitude among staff for safety and providing prompt and effective action to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions as they become apparent. Drive the behavioral based safety program
• To work closely with the Quality and Safety Manager to ensure that the plant adheres to all policies and the OHSACT
• To ensure scrap levels remain below the budgeted metrics
• To optimize tool changes on all production lines – implement methodologies for continuous improvement
• To assist the production and maintenance teams with breakdowns, thus minimizing plant downtime
• Assist with plant or production line start ups
• Plant housekeeping to be at maintained at high standards at all times
• To work closely with the Logistics and Marketing Manager to ensure products are produced as per the production plan and on time
• To develop and maintain a favorable employee relations and team building environment and work with staff members on their personal growth and development goals to ensure employees feel encouraged and motivated to contribute at their full potential
• To continually monitor results achieved in relation to planned goals, and undertake necessary corrective action to achieve the desired results
• To develop and implement quality systems to ensure outgoing products meet quality standards
• Any other tasks requested by management


Requirements

• Matric
• 10 years’ work experience.
• Plastic pipe extrusion background.
• Management qualification
• Have the function and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
• Fault finding & troubleshooting experience
• Computer Literate (Word, excel, outlook etc.)
