SUMMARY

A market leader seeks to employ an experienced Regional Operations Manager in Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) who will work closely with General Manager in Europe & Africa Regions, and provide regional office support management, which will include Finance, Human Resources, IT, Health and Safety, Quality Control, other managerial tasks where necessary. This includes and is not restricted to the company’s systems such as GEMS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance with the company’s Quality Management System
Ensuring the business’s readiness for internal as well as external audits
Working closely with the GM Europe & Africa to
Plan and develop strategic objectives which are aligned to the business strategy.
Research and keeping abreast with new technology, trends and changes within the industry.
Anticipate operational needs accordingly.
Present to and consult with management on departmental challenges; market trends and information feedback.
Contributes technically and operationally in the regions.
Review monthly profit and loss reports.
Forecast and Budget review
Consult with management on strategic challenges, global organisation’s benchmarks and trends and information feedback.
Identify areas of weakness (organisational, procedural, process, operational practice, equipment) and work with global, regional and country management (inclusive of quality control, HSE and risk management teams) to optimize operating structures/resources.
Ensuring laboratories in the region are using approved methodologies to provide a quality service to the clients within budget parameters.
Optimizing turnaround time for samples whilst ensuring accurate and timely results are achieved and maintained.
Continually assess the business within the region to increase productivity and efficiency through equipment upgrading, method enhancements or implementation of new technology and with budget.
Fully knowledgeable with the company’s safety requirements as set out in the safety manual and ensure implementation thereof.
Provide technical support to the laboratory in meeting service delivery targets against industry demands i.e. quality and turnaround time, as well as contractual agreements with respective clients.
Provide technical support, identify deficiencies and implement effective solutions to the laboratory.
Periodically review, define, plan and provide oversight in improvement projects to facilitate continuous operational improvement, productivity initiatives, and production efficiencies within the laboratory.
Participate actively in production meetings and appropriate forums to ensure production targets are met and consistency of operational objectives across the entire laboratory.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor-level tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Science/Instrumentation. BSc Honours in Chemistry would be advantageous
Minimum of 5-10 years experience in a management role
Experience in dealing with Europe & Africa regions
Proven track record in a commercial analytical laboratory or related industry/environment
Knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation system
