Description
We are seeking an Senior Systems Engineer with in-depth knowledge of developing and maintaining OpenStack based services.
The appropriate person should be someone that wants to work in every part of the system and is willing to chip in where ever they can make a contribution. You will work in Production support as well as QA, DEV and documentation to review requirements, write specifications, design, develop & test functionality/solutions in the delivery and support of the Private Cloud infrastructure.
What the role entail:
• Provide OpenStack Support to our Private Cloud customers (Internal & External).
• Creation of automated tools and scripts to reduce repetitive tasks, streamline processes, and optimize infrastructure functionality and performance.
• Participate in the design, development, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of software programs being deployed on top of the stack architecture
• Develop and maintain an expert level understanding of the OpenStack project ecosystem.
• Participate in product design activities which may require extensive research and analysis.
• Research bugs and submit bug reports.
• Help track down software defects and come up with innovative solutions to fix them.
• Write and implement workflow & maintenance plans to minimize customer downtime (ITIL3).
• Perform deep troubleshooting of OpenStack components, Linux, networking, MySQL, and RabbitMQ.
• Research problems and develop solutions for issues discovered.
• Excellent problem solving and triaging skills across multiple closely linked subsystems/components.
• Design, build, and revise continuous integration and continuous improvement of cloud systems.
• Capacity to learn new technologies & skills rapidly with a strong desire to build, triage, fix, take ownership, urgency and drive is key in this position.
Requirements
Must Have’s:
• 5+ years supporting large scale, highly available, production Linux environments with two years experience with OpenStack production deployments in a KVM sphere.
• Experience with Ceph and other storage technologies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Linux and common Linux applications (Kernel tuning, iptables, MySQL, RabbitMQ, Apache).
• Deep knowledge networking concepts and administration (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, GRE, Openvswitch, Load balancing).
• Proficiency with scripting and light development (bash, perl, python, git).
• Working knowledge of a configuration management framework (chef, puppet, ansible, etc).Understanding of client-server and cloud computing architectures.
• Passion for learning and the flexibility to work with rapidly changing technology.
• Comfortable working in open source communities and interacting across mailing lists, IRC and other distributed communications systems.
• Experience building workflows in orchestration engines.
• Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a less technical audience
